TOP:   March 23, 2012 - Jason Smith plows into Blake Griffin.  A day later, Smith is suspended 2 games for what Stu Jackson, NBA Executive Vice President Basketball Operations, deemed “excessive contact with the upper body of Griffin.”

BOTTOM: May 15, 2012 - Dwyane Wade barrels into Darren Collison.  Unlike Griffin, Collison never saw Wade, who shoved the Indiana PG from behind.  Wade, like Smith, made no basketball play.  Collison didn’t even have the ball.  Dwyane Wade also extended his forearm, pushing Collison underneath the basket.

Given the ruling on Smith, Wade should absolutely be suspended at least one game.  Unfortunately, as we all know by now, David Stern is a crook, and the league values Dwyane and the Heat far more than Jason and the Hornets.

Here’s the reality: LeBron missed the free throws, Wade missed the layup.
But at the end of the day, they combined for 52 of the HEAT’s 75 points. LeBron had to play 43 minutes, a lot of it playing out of position at the 4/5 and still put up 28 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 6 steals.
Did I mention that Bosh missed this game? Because that’s important.
When Miami signed their own Big 3, the theory was that LeBron can play the MVP role and Wade could fill the second scorer. Bosh would be key to their championship equation as he would be the filler. He’d have to play at a constant level to always make sure that Miami’s dynamic duo got enough help to secure wins.
Bosh doesn’t always have to play well, his usual 18 and 8 would normally do the job. Sometimes, he’d have to play like an All-Star, which he’s perfectly capable of. But at the end of the day, he just needs to make up the difference between what the stars put up and what the role players don’t.
Right now, Miami’s bench is terrible.
That’s why they miss Bosh right now. More than ever. Outside of Wade and LeBron, the rest of the team is struggling, tonight they made 17 of 61 shots. 17. Miami had 11 assists, Wade and LeBron had 9 of them. Miami had 40 rebounds, 15 of which were credited to LeBron and Wade. Of the 14 offensive rebounds, 7 of them were grabbed by, you guessed it, LeBron and Wade.
The problem here isn’t LeBron missing clutch free throws, Wade missing a crucial layup or LeBron not waving off teammates and driving. Those things happen. The problem here is that Miami has no one else to trust with ball. They are two players deep right now.
While everyone else is searching for someone to blame, Wade and LeBron are searching for someone to pass to. Not sure who it will be, but they don’t have many games left to figure it out.

The Nigeria-Biafra War 1967-1970 [BBC Documentary] Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5, Part 6, Part 7

The Biafra war is one of many tragic emblems of colonialism. What you had in the naming of “Nigeria” by British writer and journalist Flora Shaw was the amalgamation of British resources. If attention was given to the people of Nigeria it was to further fracture tribal relations and maintain systemic disunity and distrust. The Biafra War was born out of this systemic disunity and distrust. During the war the British government heavily armed the Nigerian Army with the objective of keeping the Nigerian Republic in tact. The French government supplied Biafra with light weapons in order to support the break up of Nigeria - whose potential dwarfed that of France’s Francophone states. The blockade imposed by the Nigerian government meant that Biafrans did not have adequate weapons to fight the war or the food to survive. Despite the many tragedies that engulfed Biafra, the Civil War endured for three years as Igbo people fought on in pursuit of independence from the Nigerian federation. Hypocritically, the British government supplied weapons to the Nigerian government to annihilate Biafra, whilst British relief organisations supplied famine relief to Biafra and British journalists branded and packaged the humanitarian crisis for foreign consumption.
